What diet changes can I make to help relieve PMS symptoms?

There are simple diet changes that you can make that may relieve the symptoms of PMS:

  • Eat a diet rich in complex carbohydrates because they can reduce mood symptoms and food cravings. Complex carbohydrates are found in foods made with whole grains, like whole-wheat bread, pasta, and cereals. Other examples include barley, brown rice, beans, and lentils.
  • Reduce your intake of fat, salt, and sugar
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol
  • Change your eating schedule to eat six small meals a day rather than three large ones. Keeping your blood sugar level stable will help with symptoms.

What is PMS?

Premenstrual Syndrome, also known as PMS, comes with many symptoms that a woman may experience related to her menstrual cycle. These symptoms can happen a week or two before a woman’s period. There are many symptoms of PMS, such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Bloating, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Tenderness and swelling in the breasts
