Anyone who is sexually active - whether its vaginal, anal or oral sex with another person - can get a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Many people who have an STD do not have any symptoms at all. STDs can be passed person to person by contact with skin, genitals, mouth, rectum or body fluids. There are many symptoms of STDs, ranging from mild irritation to severe pain. STDs that are caused by bacteria or viral infections can be treated with an antibiotic. STDs caused by viruses cannot be cured; only the symptoms can be treated.
